#WeAreBisexuality is a month-long campaign to share the stories of Bisexuals during Bisexual Visibility Month. Stories and photographs shared with the permission of the parties involved. Share your story with us all throughout Bisexual Visibility Month.
Hannah Plane is a 22 year old bisexual woman, and her coming out story goes like this –
“I wrote to my Mum initially in 2012 (I was out to close friends at the time) and last July (2016) I came out to everyone including family and friends via a Facebook post.”
Coming out, Hannah dealt with a good deal of internalization about her identity, like many of us have –
“I never feel queer enough to be at LGBT+ events a lot of the time. I always fear that I will be judged for not being queer enough due to the fact that I’m in a long term relationship with a man. I also hate the flipside of that, where people tend to think that because I’m in a straight presenting relationship, that I have ‘chosen a side’s or just ‘went through a phase'”
And she has something to say for those still struggling to come out –
“Only come out when you are ready and feel it is safe to do so. Take your time, and don’t feel pressured into coming out if you don’t want to just yet. ”
